Heavy Machinery

It is as important to take care with smaller equipment as it is with heavy machinery, but it is true that larger machinery can often be more dangerous and cause more damage to people, equipment and property. If you are new to using heavy machinery, you should try to get someone else to give you a hand, especially if you are unsure about how to go about a particular activity or procedure. There is nothing wrong with asking for help if you need it, or if you may need it in the future.

Training in one type of heavy machinery does not automatically mean that you can drive or operate any type. Often, pieces of heavy machinery are designed to perform specific jobs, and as such they vary between types, though if there are a series of pieces of machinery that perform the same or similar jobs, chances are that they will be operated in a similar fashion. If there is any ambiguity in this, or that you are unsure about any part of operating a particular piece of machinery, then you should contact somebody that can operate it and will be able to give you advice.

When you are using heavy machinery, this is the time more than ever that you must follow procedures, take any risks into account and make sure that your machine is in full, safe working order. Using machinery is the most dangerous point, but as long as you are careful and do things in the correct way then you should not encounter problems.
